Recreation Center Tile and Vinyl Murals
Johnson City, CO
(Finalist)
Project Description
The City of Grand Junction and the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture are seeking an artist and/or graphic designer to create an original mural design for the Natatorium at the new Community Recreation Center. The design should include water elements and utilize the color palettes in the site details of this call. The final submission will be a digital design file that will be printed and installed by another vendor.
Proposal
The main focus of my design is four native freshwater species, the Colorado River Cutthroat Trout, Bonytail Chub, Orangespotted Sunfish, and Razorback Sucker. If chosen, I also plan to incorperate native aquatic plants and insects to the design, in order to better illustrate the interconnection of the ecosystem just outside the doors of the natatorium. On the inner tile wall, the design focuses in on the details of the fifth species, the Bluehead Sucker, a fish whose coloration also resembles a stream viewed from overhead.
